Practical Guidance on Implementing Creative Health

Practical Guidance on Implementing Creative Health

The National Centre for Creative Health (NCCH) has launched a new How webpage, offering clear, practical guidance on implementing creative health initiatives across health and care services, organisations, and systems. With creative health gaining recognition as a driver of better outcomes and value, this page offers practical insights and real-world examples to help you put it into practice.

What Is Creative Health and Why It Matters

Creative health refers to creative approaches and activities that benefit our health and wellbeing. These can include visual and performing arts, crafts, film, literature, cooking, and engagement with nature, such as gardening. Creative health can contribute to the prevention of ill-health, promotion of healthy behaviours, management of long-term conditions, and treatment and recovery.

Access the New How Webpage For:

  • Creative health in practice: Explore real-world examples of creative health making a difference across diverse settings—from hospitals to community services
  • Implementation guides: Access practical guidance on how to embed creative health into health and care strategies, service design, and delivery.
  • Professional perspectives and experience: Learn directly from professionals as they share their experience of integrating creative health into mental health trusts, Integrated Care Systems (ICS), and services for children and young people.
  • Essential Tools and Resources: Find a curated selection of key resources including the Creative Health Toolkit, Creative Health Review, and the Creative Health Quality Framework.

You can also explore our Resources section for a full range of tools, case studies, and guides to support your work with creative health.
