Responding to the government consultation on a 10-Year Health Plan
Change NHS: Help build a health service fit for the future
The 10-Year Health Plan is part of the government’s health mission to build a health service fit for the future. The plan will set out how to tackle the challenges raised by Lord Darzi’s Independent investigation into the state of the NHS in England, released in September.
A government consultation is open for members of the public, health and care staff and organisations in England to share their experiences and ideas in a national conversation about the future of the NHS.
At NCCH, we want to make sure the benefits of creative health are recognised by policymakers as they develop the 10-Year Plan. In our blog responding to the Darzi Report, we set out how creative health can help the Government respond to current challenges, and how it can be integral to the three shifts recommended by Lord Darzi:
Shift 1: moving more care from hospitals to communities
Shift 2: making better use of technology in health and care
Shift 3: focussing on preventing sickness, not just treating it
The Creative Health Review – How Policy Can Embrace Creative Health brings together evidence and examples of how creative health can improve health and wellbeing and reduce pressures on the NHS and public services. The Review recommends a cross-departmental Creative Health Strategy at national level to realise the full potential of creative health in tackling key policy challenges such as health inequalities and rising levels of poor mental health.
A key message of the Review is that Creative health should form an integral part of a 21st-century health and social care system – one that is holistic, person-centred and focuses on reducing inequalities, supporting people to live well for longer.
We reflect these messages in our response.
